How To Get That Big Beachy Hair
This summer the beach hair look is back! You know the look I’m talking about, right? That big, volumized, tousled look you get after a day spent at the beach. It’s the epitome of a carefree, I-woke-up like this style. If you want to go for the beach-wave look, no matter your hair type, read on for our best tips to bring up the volume, add some texture and get those perfectly imperfect beachy waves.
Step One: Shampoo + Condition First
Beachy waves may look like you haven’t washed your hair in days, but to truly achieve the look, you’ll want to start with freshly washed hair and a clean scalp. A salt scrub shampoo is a great product to start with since it's not only refreshing and gently exfoliating for the scalp, but it can also help remove any product buildup and leave you with a light texture with which to get started styling.
goop Himalayan Salt Scalp Scrub Shampoo
Our scalp and hair are our crown, and this unique whipped shampoo made of exfoliating mineral-rich Himalayan pink salt, nourishing cold-pressed moringa oil, and pure unfiltered rose hip oil purifies and detoxifies all at once. The scrub cleanses the hair and scalp of product buildup, dirt, and oil, leaving both clean and refreshed. The cleansing scent—rosemary, geranium, orange, and peppermint—lingers subtly in hair (and smells amazing as you wash).
Step Two: Opt for a Comb Instead of a Brush
You do want to detangle your hair post-wash, but try reaching for a wide-toothed comb instead of a brush to avoid unnecessary frizz and flyaways.
PureGlo Wooden Anti-Static Detangling Comb Set
SHINY, SMOOTH, TANGLE-FREE HAIR: Handcrafted from 100% organic green sandalwood and buffalo horns (no cruelty source) with tender care. Spread natural oil from scalp to hair tails. Detangles natural, thick and curly hairs effortlessly.
NO SNAGS, NO TANGLE, NO STATIC: It's time to go Natural! Get rid of your plastic combs that cause frizz and damage in your hair. Buffalo horn is rich in natural protein and is anti-static. Your hair will feel smooth and smells good. Long-term use adds shine, volume and improves hair texture.
Step Three: Curl Cream / Volumizer
Depending on your hair type, the third step is about adding a product to bring out some light, natural curls. A curl cream is perfect if you do have a bit of wave or curl to your hair, as it will help it spring back after combing. If, on the other hand, you need to add some more volume and curl, opt for a volumizer instead. Apply to roots only with your volumizer and then proceed with the next steps.
Moroccanoil Curl Defining Cream
An all-in-one curl solution that promotes frizz-free, deeply nourished hair. Defines and enhances natural curl texture while softening hair and providing gentle hold.

Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse
A weightless styling mousse that builds long-lasting body and provides flexible hold. Enriched with conditioners to leave hair sleek and soft.
Creates natural volume without leaving a sticky residue. “Memory” factor prevents flaking when hair is reshaped.
Step Four: Diffuse Away
A diffuser will help you to keep your natural curl pattern intact while blow-drying since it mimics the act of air-drying hair and helps avoid frizz.
Drybar The Bouncer Diffuser
Keep your curls in line! This universal diffuser broadens and reduces the speed of the airflow from your blow-dryer to gently dry, define curls and reduce frizz in naturally curly hair.
Although designed for Drybar's Buttercup and Baby Buttercup, The Bouncer can fit most other blow-dryers as well!
Step Five: Dry Shampoo For The Win
Arguably the best styling product on the planet: dry shampoo! Dry shampoo can add texture and volume through the hair and is great for absolutely any hair type. It can help absorb any extra oil or styling products that are looking a little greasy or heavy and just leave the hair super refreshed with a lifted hold.
Perfect Hair Days Dry Shampoo
A dry shampoo that actually cleans hair, eliminating oil, sweat, and odor. It is silicone-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free and cruelty-free.
Makes hair look, feel, and smell clean. Delivers fresh scent throughout the day.
Step Six: Go Random With a Curling Iron
Here is where you make or break the big, beach hair look: the curling iron. The best thing to keep in mind is that you aren't after symmetry or perfection. Keep picturing how the ocean would naturally tousle your curls and go for that random look. If you’re looking to skip extra heat on your hair you could also tie your hair up in some big, chunky braids and let it set. This way is obviously going to take a little longer (overnight would be ideal!) but you’ll eliminate the chance of going just a little too perfect with your curling iron.

The Wrap Party's reverse-taper, no-slip barrel creates perfect waves and curls, and holds hair in place while styling.
Ionic Technology reduces frizz and adds tons of shine, while Infrared Technology heats hair from the inside out.
Step Seven: Sea Salt Spray to Finish the Look
Hold your style in place with a few spritzes of a sea salt texturizing spray. Naturally curly or wavy hair can go a little heavier with the spray but if you have thin hair that easily falls flat, shoot for just a tiny spray on the ends.
L'ange Hair Sea Salt Spray for Bouncy Beachy Waves & Windswept Look
